Alexandria, VA, September 29, 2004 - In celebration of the creation of Virginia Tech's College of Engineering's Northern Virginia Division, an open house was held at the Alexandria Research Institute (ARI) on Oct. 11, 2004. Virginia Congressman Jim Moran attended the event that was hosted by Virginia Tech's president, Charles Steger, and ARI's director, Saifur Rahman.
"Congressman Moran's visit gives us an opportunity to showcase the research achievements of Virginia Tech in Alexandria," said Saifur Rahman, director of the Alexandria Research Institute. Hosted by Charles Steger, president of Virginia Tech, the open house began with a welcome and an introduction to leaders of the Northern Virginia Division. Presentations of engineering research projects and themes ranging from ad hoc networks to bioengineering (including studies on breast cancer and diabetes) to information about energy and the global environment were followed Steger's comments. Open house speakers included Saifur Rahman, ARI director; Dave Sebring, Virginia Bioinformatics Institute's director of corporate and federal relations; and Roe-Han Yoon, professor of Mining Engineering at Virginia Tech.
