Assistant Research Professor
The Virginia Tech Advanced Research Institute is seeking a non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor who will be expected to work with faculty in the area of power systems and critical infrastructures, and distributed generation at VT-ARI to advance current research activities and investigate further research opportunities as well as teach relevant classes as needed. Duties include participation as a key member of a faculty team targeting research in microgrid, distributed generation and critical energy infrastructure assurance; working collaboratively with faculty, writing competitive research proposals, publication of articles in peer-reviewed journals, supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, membership on graduate committees, developing new graduate courses and help with teaching existing courses within the Virginia Tech Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related areas. An emphasis in electric power systems engineering and direct experience of at least two years with the research topics of interest is required. The candidate should have experience in several of the areas described below:

Modeling, simulation, validation and verification of power systems; distributed generation; distributed simulation of electrical networks or power systems; real-time modeling of electrical power systems. Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching and proven successful research experience; experience with critical infrastructures and Geographic Information systems (GIS); laboratory work experience (instrumentation and interfacing equipment, prototyping); functional knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and additional toolboxes; advanced programming level; functional knowledge of RTDS, PSCAD.   Please visit www.ari.vt.edu or www.jobs.vt.edu for further information.
