DRR is providing assistance to Bangladesh University for Engineering and Technology for the establishment of a National Center for Earthquake Engineering and the expansion of the Bangladesh Engineering Society, a professional society of engineers, seismologists, architects and planners dedicated to earthquake mitigation in Bangladesh. To date, a survey of human capability in earthquake engineering has been carried out, curriculum improvements have been developed for university engineering programs, and 60 strong motion accelerographs have been delivered. Faculty exchanges have brought two BUET professors to the US to meet their counterparts and to attend important professional meetings and two Virginia Tech faculty members have given lectures at BUET and the Bangladesh Earthquake Society.
