Utilization of Optical Fiber of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd.

Abstract

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd (PGCB) started its operation from 1996 & was entrusted with the responsibility for operation maintenance and expansion of High Voltage Power Network of Bangladesh. With an objective to Economic Load Despatching, the Company is going to implement a large project to establish a Modern and Computer Based National Load Despatch Center (NLDC) of which most of the Transmission Lines of the Country ( 230 KV and 132 KV) would comprise of Single mode, multi-strand Optical Fiber which is expected to be completed by 2007. Meanwhile, laying of Optical Fiber has started. Until now about 448 KM Optical Line has been completed around Dhaka and Dhaka-Chittagong route. Laying of Optical lines are continuing on the ongoing Transmission Line projects and provision has been kept for laying of optical fiber in the future projects also. The Optical System of PGCB would be very robust, noise-free and its reliability will be over 99.98%. That is why the Optical Network can be used comfortably for Telecom, Internet and other ICT business.

PGCB will use some portion (10%) the fiber Network for its System Operation and the rest (90%) can be leased out through open tender to the interested party/parties engaged in Telecom, Internet and other ICT business.

B.Sc. Engineering-1973. (Electrical and Electronic).

Experience:
Associated with Planning And Development, Operation Maintenance and Renovation of different modes of Communication System which includes PLC, Microwave, VHF, Optical System etc. for last 28 years.

Foreign Visit:
Visited different countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Canada. Saudi Arabia etc for training, inspection, employment in different fields of Communication.
